Two school districts have agreed to share a band position for next school year.
The Greene County and Glidden-Ralston School boards recently approved to share band instructor Chad Schmertmann in a 50-50 agreement. Greene County Schools Superintendent Tim Christensen talks about how the agreement was set up between the two school districts to share their middle school band instructor.
“We were going to look at trying to share that position moving forward. Had conversations with Paton-Churdan, that would’ve been probably our number one sharing partner that we would look at. They did not have a need for sharing. But Paton-Churdan and Glidden-Ralston have a shared superintendent Kreg Lensch. So in talking to Kreg, actually Glidden-Ralston’s band instructor is taking retirement at the end of this year, so they have a need for a band instructor.”
The agreement includes Schmertmann spending half his time in the Greene County School District and the other half at Glidden-Ralston. G-R’s schedule is set up where choir is opposite of band, which allows Schmertmann to split his time.
Greene County School Board approved the agreement on February 15th and Glidden-Ralston School Board approved the same agreement on February 17th.
