The City of Scranton has been selected to participate in a community development program.
Scranton is one of only ten communities in Iowa chosen for Iowa’s Living Roadways Community Visioning Program. It is a transportation enhancement planning process that serves communities less than 10,000 people. The program allows residents to envision the overall look of roadsides and related landscapes by combining environmental and stewardship with community improvement projects.
Focus group meetings will take place on Saturday, March 25th from 9am to 3pm at the community center. Residents are invited to attend their specific group that they are assigned to and share ideas about transportation needs and opportunities for the community to improve. Any resident that is interested in attending can contact City Clerk and committee contact Melinda Hinners at 712-652-3888 or Trees Forever Field Coordinator Brad Riphagen at 515-370-1291.
Since 1996, the Community Visioning Program has helped 235 communities in Iowa. The program is sponsored by the Department of Transportation, Iowa State University Extension Landscape and Architecture and Trees Forever.
