The Greene County School District has implemented a new bus safety policy.
Superintendent Tim Christensen says those pre-kindergarten through third grade students who ride a bus at stops in Grand Junction, Jefferson, Rippey and Scranton, will be issued a card with their name and stop location listed on the card. The student will then give their card to the bus driver in order to exit the bus.
Teachers will be issuing the cards to students on a daily basis before getting on the bus after school. Then the student will be expected to give their card to the bus driver before they can exit the bus. If a student loses their card, they will not be allowed to get off the bus. If this happens, the driver will then contact the transportation department to verify if the student is supposed to be dropped off at that location before the student is allowed to exit the bus.
Christensen points out that the new policy is intended to enhance student safety.
