At long last, the much anticipated first outdoor meet of the season has arrived for the ACGC girls track and field team today as they make their way to Jefferson. There they will be running it out with Greene County high school at Linduska field in the Greene County early bird meet.

Last season under the Guthrie County name, coach Dave Spratte and his his team had a more than solid start to the season which is exactly what he’s looking for out of his team under the ACGC name this season. Diving deeper into the first meet, Raccoon Valley Radio caught up with coach Spratte as he explained some of the things he’s looking for out of his team in their inaugural outdoor meet as ACGC.

“We just want the girls to run real hard and be competitive and the second one is to make sure they’re carrying over what we’re trying to teach them in practice. We want to make sure the baton exchanges are (good) and that they’re doing the fundamental things correct with that, we want to make sure their blocks are set correctly. You want to make sure that they’re warming up properly, you don’t think you’d have to worry about warm ups but that’s always a priority to minimize injuries and things like that. I would just make sure they’re a team, they warm up together, they support each other as everybody’s running. Those are things I’m looking at when I’m at the meet watching not only when they run but also to see if they’re a team player or not,” explained coach Spratte.

The meet today kicks off from Linduska field in Jefferson beginning at 4:30 pm.
