T-minus five days left until the ADM Tiger boys track team joins their Lady Tiger counterparts in the commencement of the 2017 outdoor season.

On Friday, head coach Mike Whisner and his Tiger track team will be partaking in a 14 team meet at the Varsity Invitational in Winterset. One of the aspects that has coach Whisner pretty excited about this year’s outdoor track season is something that every high school coach strives for, and that would be a large number of students signed up and ready to participate in track and field. When Friday does come around, unlike through most of the indoor season, coach Whisner will have a full compliment of over 45 individuals to utilize for the outdoor opener.

Raccoon Valley Radio caught up with coach Whisner as he talked about the numbers for his team and where the strengths lie heading into Friday.

“Overall we’re excited about what we’ve got, we’ve got great numbers. Had over fifty sign up and I think we’re going to have around 45 or so involved so that’s pretty good numbers and we’re excited about it. We have good numbers in the hurdle events and sprint events as far as in upper class-men also in those events. In the long jump, high jump, and throws, we’ve got some seniors that are going to contribute so we’re looking pretty strong there. We’re a little light on the distance side so we’re working on that, got some youth there so we’ll see how that develops as we prepare,” explained coach Whisner.

The meet this Friday in Winerset is set to commence from Winterset high school beginning at 4:30 pm.
