The high school outdoor track & field season for the Greene County Rams begins in Jefferson today at the Greene County Early Bird Coed Meet at Linduska Field. State Meet experience returns for Coach Kelly Simpson’s girls and for Coach Dean Lansman’s boys.
Senior Olivia Hansen has relay experience at State Meets, and although she’s a very good cross-country runner, Hansen hasn’t run anything longer than 400 meters on the track. She feels good about the shorter relays again this season for the Rams, and likes the numbers of girls that are on the team. “The numbers are back up, which is good to see. Last year there were not very many kids out, which was different for me. My freshmen and sophomore years there were tons of kids. Seeing the numbers back up is good. We’re young, but that’s good for the future.”
Starting time for today’s coed meet is 4:30 p.m. The Rams host girls and boys from Manson-Northwest Webster, CMB (Maxwell), South Hamilton (Jewell), and Winterset, as well as the Gilbert girls and Paton-Churdan boys. No team scoring will be kept.
