Like many high school senior athletes, Hunter Ruth of Greene County HS had some decisions to make about his future. He announced this week he’ll be attending Central College in Pella later this year, and he plans on continuing his wrestling career for the Dutch. Ruth was an all-district football lineman for the Rams, and also a two-time State tournament wrestling qualifier.
He chose wrestling, he told Raccoon Valley Radio, because he felt he had some unfinished business in that sport. He talks about why Central, and the decision to wrestle over playing football. “They have a really nice program, and put a lot of work into their athletics, and I liked the campus. Deciding which sport was a pretty hard decision because I really like both sports, but they overlap, so you have to pick one or the other.” Ruth, a good student, hasn’t decided on a career path at this point.
Other Greene County wrestlers from recent seasons also attend Central College. That list includes brothers Jake and Jordan Challen, and Jeremy Scheuermann. Scheuermann and Jordan Challen wrestled for the Dutch in 2016-17. Ruth said Schuermann’s younger brother, Logan, a soon-to-be ACGC graduate, will also be attending Central College.
