Eleven Greene County students are on the Boone High School soccer teams this season including nine girls. The recent past has seen girls from here going to Carroll to play soccer while the boys went to Boone, but now both girls and boys are on the Boone teams. Greene County does not offer soccer as a competitive sport, so students from here play for Boone under an athletic sharing agreement.
Chris Mann is the Boone girls’ coach. He reports 38 girls are out with 20 of those being freshmen. Most of the girls from Greene County are ninth graders with six of the nine listed on the varsity. That includes Bailey Cunningham, Ashlee Harmeyer, Aubrey Heupel, Kassie Lamoureux, Kirsten Lamoureux, and Emma Schroeder. Also out for soccer are Nayelli Lopez, Madi Minnehan, and Theda Zills.
There are just 18 boys out for soccer in Boone under the direction of head coach Connor Doyle. Marcelo Alarcon and Isaiah Losee are the two from Greene County.
The Boone boys open the season on April 1 at a tournament in Ames, while the girls’ opener is set for Thursday, April 6 at Winterset.
