Greene County’s high school track and field squads travel west to Carroll today for the Carroll Coed Relays starting at 4:30 p.m. In addition to the Rams and the host Tigers, teams in the field are Audubon, IKM-Manning, MVAO (Maple Valley), Perry, and Woodward-Granger.

Both Greene County teams are relying heavily on freshmen this season. That list includes Carter Morton, who has had some early success in the high jump and 400 meter low hurdles. He’s cleared 5′ 8″ in the high jump and just missed 5′ 10″ in Panora at the April 4 Panorama Kip Janvrin Invitational. He’s also run the long hurdles race three times and lowered his clocking each time, down to 1:01.04 in Panora. Morton talked to Raccoon Valley Radio about his performances. “I’m not there yet, but I need to keep improving my form in the hurdles and get under a minute, maybe even faster. I watched the film of the high jump at Panora when I tried 5′ 10″. My butt was over, but I just needed to finish.”

Dean Lansman is the boys’ head coach and Kelly Simpson coaches the Greene County girls.
