To say that the 2017 outdoor season started out strong for the ADM Tiger boys track and field team was almost an understatement.
It was a twelve team field for the Tigers last Friday who blew past all but two of those teams to take third place overall earning a team score of 68 points. Only Earlham and Carlisle bested ADM with team scores of 89 and 117 respectively.
The Tigers third place run was filled with many great performances highlighted by 15 top ten finishes broken down into 10 top five performances. Individually it was Reece McLaughlin to pace ADM with 17.50 points highlighted by a first place performance in the long jump, taking the crown with a distance of 20-8.75. McLaughlin contributed in the sprint format by earning a third place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 53.74.
Jacob West didn’t miss a beat in the high jump as the senior took a second place performance with a height of 5-08 while Kade Barcus earned a great start to his senior outdoor track season taking a fifth place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.42 seconds.
The field events for ADM were dominated by Mason Warmuth who took a second place finish in the discuss throw with a final distance of 130′-5″, just missing out on first by two inches. Mason also grabbed a top ten finish in the shot put where his distance of 41′-05.75″ to take 7th.
The team events proved quite strong for the Tigers who ran away with first place finishes in both the 800 sprint medley relay and the 4 x 200 meter relay.
Next up on the docket for the Tiger boys track & field team will be the annual Hugh Norman Coed Relays tomorrow hosted by ADM and the Tiger boys team will be welcoming in a seven team field comprised of Carlisle, Clarke, Dallas Center-Grimes, Nevada, Norwalk, Van Meter, and Winterset.
