Wet and cool conditions didn’t keep the Greene County golf teams from starting their 2017 seasons. The Rams faced Carroll High and lost both varsity matches to the Tigers, but the Rams did have their share of highlights.

The girls’ action was moved to the Jefferson Municipal Golf Course where the Tigers won the nine hole event by a 194-237 final. Greene County junior Rachael Danielson was medalist at 42 with Carroll’s Sara Sweeny runner-up at 43. Coach Heath Telleen reports Danielson bounced back nicely from going out of bounds on hole number six. “A 42 is a great opening round,” the coach added. Freshman Ellie Madsen was next for the Rams at 58, with Emily Heupel at 68 and Kaitlyn McColley shooting 69.

The boys played at the Carroll Municipal Course, a venue none of the Rams had ever played. Coach Dave Destival said he was very happy with how the boys played, even though the Rams fell by a 159-171 score. “Our score was the lowest in several years,” Coach Destival added. Carroll had the two lowest scores on the day with a 36 by Kyle Emery and 38 for Koby Paulsen. The Rams were led by brothers Elijah and Jaden Block, both at 39. Isaiah Yoder shot 43 with Ben Bravard at 50.

The Greene County girls are back in action today at Gilbert at 4 p.m. The Greene County boys next play on Thursday.
