The Iowa Economic Development Authority’s Main Street Iowa program, in cooperation with local Main Street program in Guthrie Center, will host “Hometown Teams: How Sports Shape America,” a traveling exhibition, from the Smithsonian. Guthrie Center and five other communities have been chosen by the Iowa Economic Development Authority to host the exhibit. The tour will be from March 17, 2018 through January 1, 2019. The exhibit will be in Guthrie Center in June of 2018. “Hometown Teams” will capture the stories that unfold on the neighborhood fields and courts, the underdog heroics, larger-than-life legends, fierce rivalries and gut-wrenching defeats.
