The first meets of the week kicked off yesterday for the Panorama Panther track and field teams as they went back to Earlham for the Earlham Coed Relays.
After two straight second place finishes last week, the Lady Panther track and field team stepped up to take the crown yesterday out of 12 teams with 150 points which was 31 points better than Harlan in second. The Panther boys were also up against a strong field and through a 13 team field came away with 55 points good enough for 7th.
It was certainly a highlight meet for the Lady Panthers who set 8 personal bests on the day through 19 top five finishes and 5 first place finishes. Team wise, the Lady Panthers had 7 relay events earn no worse than a top 5 finish. The 4 x 400, 4 x 800, and distance medley relay teams all took first place while the distance medley relay team of Brooke Halterman, Morgan Johnk, Kassidy Bremer, and Devyn Kemble went a step further to earn both stadium and meet records. Individually Bailey Beckman had a big day as a member of the first place 4 x 400 team as well as taking first in the long jump at 15-06.25 and second place finish in the 400 meter dash. Morgan Johnk took first in the high jump at 5′-00″. Lydia Knapp had a big day with two top five finishes.
On the boys side they had a solid day with nine personal bests with five top 5 finishes for the meet. Matthew Webner highlighted the day for the Panther boys tossing 150′-01″ in the discus event which captured first place and a meet record. Other big performances on the day came from Dan Jensen in the shot put taking fourth while Brody Rickheim earned 3rd place in the 200 meter dash. Freshmen Luke South continues his great season picking up a third place finish yesterday in the 400 meter hurdles.
Next up it will be the Lady Panthers to fly solo this Thursday heading to Guthrie County rival ACGC beginning at 5:00 pm.
