rep_BaltimoreNew gun legislation was passed by the Iowa legislature last week.

District 47 Representative Chip Baltimore says after the House passed the bill a few weeks ago, the Senate made some minor changes to the bill according to Baltimore, the House quickly passed those amendments and sent it to the governor to be signed into law.

Some of the parts of the new law include requiring firearm safety training before an individual applies for a new permit to carry, making all permit to carry certifications look the same across the state and defining situations in which individuals are allowed to use their firearms for self-defense purposes.

“We worked very closely with the Department of Public Safety, the Sheriffs and Deputies Association, the Police Officers Association, worked very closely with them that they were okay with the provisions that we were working on. We wanted to make sure we were not making situations out there that law enforcement wasn’t comfortable with.”

Baltimore was happy with the changes they made to firearms and allowing for more provisions with the US Constitution’s second amendment rights.
