Assignments for State Track & Field Qualifying Meets have been announced by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and Iowa High School Athletic Association. Thursday, May 11 is the date set aside for qualifying for State competition in all four of Iowa’s classes. Greene County will travel to Denison for a Class 3A coed meet, while the Paton-Churdan boys go to Manson for a 1A meet. P-C does not have a girls’ team.

Denison-Schleswig plays host to Qualifying Meet number one, which in addition to Greene County, includes Perry, Atlantic, Carroll, Glenwood, Harlan, and Sergeant Bluff-Luton. Geographically, the meet covers a lot of miles, with teams from Dallas County in the heart of the state to Woodbury County along the Missouri River. The eight schools are from eight different counties.

Greene County athletes are likely to find plenty of competition in Denison. Returning State champions, other State place winners, numerous past State qualifiers, and some of this season’s best will be present for both girls and boys. For example, on the boys’ side alone, eight of the 19 events have individuals or relays ranked for or second in Class 3A, according to April 14 information on QuikStats.comiowa, the official reporting site for track & field performances.

The Coed State Meet is May 18-19-20 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
