It’s a busy day for track & field and soccer athletes from Greene County High School. The track & field squads travel southeast to Woodward for the Woodward-Granger Invitational at 4:30 p.m. The soccer players from here play for Boone under an athletic sharing agreement, and the Toreadors play Bondurant-Farrar today. The girls are in Boone and the boys are in Bondurant.

The W-G Invitational will also have the Paton-Churdan boys in the field. P-C does not have a girls’ team. Other girls and boys squads scheduled to take part include the host Hawks, along with Glidden-Ralston, Iowa Christian Academy, and West Central Valley.

The W-G meet will be the final tune up before the Drake Relays for Greene County junior high jumper Megan Durbin. She qualified in a nine-way tie for 14th place in a 24 jumper field with a best leap of 5′ 4″. Durbin won the Drake title in 2016 at 5′ 8″, then went on to jump 5′ 5″ at the Class 3A State Meet, which she won over two others based on fewer misses. The high school girls’ high jump is set for 9:45 a.m. this Friday inside Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
