annual spring cleanup

The annual Perry spring cleanup is coming next week.

City Administrator Sven Peterson says it will be be done from May 1-3, with the City divided into three sections. On Monday, the City will pick up east of 1st Street and south of Willis Avenue. Tuesday, east of 1st Street and north of Willis Avenue will be picked up. Finally on Wednesday, the City will take care of all areas west of 1st Street. Peterson asks the items be placed between the curb and the property line by or before 7 a.m. to ensure pickup.

There are some changes to the spring cleanup this year, starting with the fee schedule: There is a $10 fee for small loads, which are typically the size of a standard dumpster; a $25 fee for a half-load, which are up to one-half of a dump truck load; and $50 for a full-load, which is up to a full dump truck load. Also, they will not be picking up appliances, televisions, or computer monitors. For those items, the City will offer an appliance and scrap metal disposal in June.

Additionally, the City is cracking down on people who have not paid past fees. Peterson explains, “One of the biggest changes that we’re doing this year is that anybody that has not paid their spring cleanup in the past, and we have some bills that go back two or three years that people haven’t paid, we will not be picking up your spring cleanup this year. So if you want your spring cleanup picked up, you got to come into City Hall and pay that bill off. Get square with the City, and then we’ll pick up.”
