Greene County residents are encouraged to rid their homes of unwanted or expired prescription drugs this weekend.
The Sheriff’s office is participating in the National Take Back Day where anyone can drop off prescription drugs such as pills or patches to the law enforcement center this Saturday, no questions asked. The Sheriff’s office will then hand over all items to the Drug Enforcement Agency. The DEA will not accept liquids, needles or sharps.
Last October, over 730,000 pounds of prescription drugs were collected at almost 52,000 sites across the country. In the last 12 Take day events, the DEA and local law enforcement partners have collected more than 71 million pounds of pills.
The Take Back event will be from 10am to 2pm at the Sheriff’s office on Saturday, which is located at 204 South Chestnut Street in Jefferson.
