The Perry fireworks fundraiser has unofficially come to a close, and the City is very close to meeting its $15,000 goal.

Chamber of Commerce Director Bob Wilson says, “Our current total is just over $13,000, which is epic. All from your community support, the donations come at pennies, fifty cents, up to the hundreds of dollars and everything in between. So we’re there. This is what we had last year, $13,000. But again, the goal’s $15,000, so I’m still pushing for it. I’m not sad, but you know, it’s just when you set a goal sometimes you want to meet it.”

The money came from several sources, including last Thursday’s fundraising day that included a live pie auction on KDLS. After Thursday, Wilson said their estimated total was over $9,000. The remainder came in the week after during the round-up events held at the Perry Fareway and Hy-Vee. There’s traditionally a friendly competition between the two grocery stores to see who can raise the most by rounding-up people’s totals to the nearest dollar. Fareway came out just ahead this year, but as Wilson puts it, the real winner is the City of Perry.

He adds, they will continue to accept donations for the fundraiser until they finally purchase the fireworks in mid May. To hear more about this and other Perry Chamber topics, listen to today’s Perry Fareway Let’s Talk Dallas County program at RaccoonValleyRadio.com.
