Drugs

Tomorrow is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, and the Perry and Adel police departments are taking part.

The Perry officers will be at Hy-Vee from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., while the Adel officers will be at Sumpter Pharmacy from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. People can bring their unused and unwanted prescription drugs for safe disposal. The program is through the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), who seeks to prevent pill abuse and theft by allowing people to rid their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.

This is the 13th time in seven years the DEA has held a drug take back event, the most recent being last October. On that day, they collected 366 tons of prescription drugs from people across the United States. They remind people they won’t accept liquids, needles, or sharps, but they can accept pills or patches. There is no cost to turn in the drugs, and it’s all done anonymously with no questions asked.
