A group of West Central Valley High School students staged a walkout Wednesday in support of a teacher they believe was unjustly terminated.
A reported 20 to 25 students refused to return to class after a break and sat in the high school commons for more than half an hour. The students were protesting the dismissal of a teacher. A similar group of students showed up at the School Board meeting last month as a show of support. The Board also accepted the termination of the teacher’s contract at the end of the school year. The protest broke up after a fire drill forced students outside. Some returned to class and a few left the school grounds.
Superintendent Dr. David Arnold tells Raccoon Valley Radio the students are entitled to protest decisions they do not agree with. The District’s policy prevents administration from discussing personnel issues, including the termination of an employee.
Raccoon Valley Radio reached out to the dismissed teacher, but they haven’t returned phone calls. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
