Greene County was fourth among seven teams at Thursday’s South Hamilton boys’ golf invitational. The 18 hole event was held at the Jewell course under what Coach Dave Destival described as “very windy” conditions. Thursday was also the first time any of the Rams had played the course.
The Rams had the meet medalist in junior Elijah Block with a 42-37=79. He played the nine-hole course in six over the first time around, then went just one over the second time through. Other scores that counted in the Greene County team total were 46-47=93 from Ben Wilkins, 51-49=100 from Jadon Block, and 51-50=101 by Chase Juergensen.
The host SH team won the event by shooting 339 with Roland-Story (Story City) next at 360, Madrid was third, also at 360, followed by the Rams at 373, South Hamilton’s JV was fifth with 374, followed by Ogden 391, and North Polk (Alleman) 396.
Coach Destival reports the Rams have added a meet at Winterset on Tuesday, May 9, to end the regular season. Greene County goes to Denison for a Class 3A Sectional Tournament on Friday, May 12.
