The Thomas Jefferson Gardens Education and Welcome Center will be opening soon.

The new welcome center on the corner of Lincoln Way and Chestnut Street in Jefferson will feature four public restrooms with handicap-accessibility, heating and air-conditioning system, flooring and lighting, along with a light gray interior, a small refrigerator and sink. Greene County Chamber Office Coordinator Sheilah McGregor Pound says the Chamber office will also be moving into the facility.

“This is kind of an exciting thing for us. The Chamber office will be housed in there. Nothing will change, we’re basically moving location. Our benefits and what we do for our community right now that will not change, we’ll just be in a different location. So that’s kind of an exciting thing coming up.”

Both the Thomas Jefferson Gardens and the Chamber boards have made an agreement. Pound will be working the weekdays, while Thomas Jefferson Gardens will be employing an individual for the weekends. Hours of operation will coincide with the Mahanay Bell Tower hours in the summer through Labor Day. The Chamber office will continue to be open throughout the fall and winter months.

The Chamber announced in February of 2016 that they could no longer pursue construction of the welcome center and last August, Thomas Jefferson Gardens agreed to finish the project.

A grand opening of the welcome center will be on June 9th from 5 to 6:30pm.
