On one of the biggest of stages, both ADM Tiger girls and boys track teams made big splashes at the state qualifying meet in Norwalk.
The Lady Tigers proved to be peaking at the right time with 10 events now moving on to the state meet while the Tiger boys will be advancing four events to Des Moines next week.
The sprint medley started off the list for the Lady Tigers qualifying for state by breaking a school record with 1:51.04. Junior standout Keaton Kester was not done breaking records of her own as she re-broke her 100 meter time earlier in the season with a time of 12.10 seconds yesterday. Kester also topped the field in the 200 meter dash clocking in at a blistering 24.81 seconds. Continuing on with the list Anna Kenny will be taking her talents to the state meet after finishing second yesterday in the 400 with a time of 1:02.00. ADM’s silent superstar Sadie Juergens made a very loud impact yesterday qualifying for state in the 800 meter dash with a district best time of 2:23.83. The individual events moving on for ADM rounded out with Ashlie Hauf clocking in with a 2nd place time of 12:57.04 in the 3000 meter run. All but the 4 x 200 meter relay event earned seasons best for the meet as the 4 x 100, 4 x 400, 4 x 800, and distance medley teams all joined the sprint medley in advancing to state.
The Tiger boys were highlighted by five events punching their tickets to the state meet next week. Two of those events came courtesy of Reece McLaughlin snatching second in the 400 meter dash at 52.56 seconds and picking up second place in the long jump with 20′-11.25″. The Tiger boys would join in the record breaking party as both the sprint medley and 4 x 110 shuttle hurdle events took down school records and in the proccess qualified for the state meet. The sprint medley team of Kade Barcus, David Howard, Trey Volz, and Reece McLaughlin did so by clocking in 1:37.11 while the 4 x 110 shuttle hurdle team of Luke Heitz, Austin Flora, Sam McCartney, and Jacob West notched a time of 1:00.48. ADM would also tack on a second place finish in the 4 x 200 meter relay set at 1:33.15 while the 4 x 100 meter relay team took second place as well with a 1:34.06.
Both teams will be anxiously waiting to see if any performance qualifiers will add to the list later today.
