Jefferson City Council 5_23The Jefferson City Council met Tuesday in regular session.

The Council approved the 2017 fiscal year budget amendments as presented, following a public hearing on the topic. The Council also approved the second reading to amend an ordinance to allow preschools and child care facilities as special exceptions in the holding districts, the first reading to amend an ordinance to increase the deposit for utilities from $100 to $150 and a fireworks permit for Wild Rose Casino and Resort for July 4th.

Additionally, the Council approved the contract and bonds for the Community Development Block Grant downtown revitalization project, as well as the owner’s acknowledgement for their payment part of the project and easement agreements.

City Attorney Bob Schwartzkopf then discussed the two options the Council has to fill the vacancy on the Council following the resignation of Dan Benitz. The Council may decide on which option to do at their next meeting in June.

Jefferson Matters: Main Street gave their quarterly report. Program Director Peg Raney said they raised about $1,700 from their online Pizza Ranch memorabilia auction. On May 31st they will visit with all of the building owners that are involved in the downtown revitalization project with the architect and construction contractor. Promotions Committee Chair Deb McGinn said they ordered another bronze plaque with grant funds from Jefferson Rotary for Yankee Robinson to be installed on one of the brick pillars on the square.
