The season and home openers were held last night for the Panorama Panther softball and baseball teams hosting Des Moines Christian.
On the softball diamond it was a hard fought battle but unfortunately for the Panthers, their offense would be held at bay while Des Moines Christian would put up a ten spot and winning by that mark 10-0.
Des Moines Christian struck first in the very first inning plating two runs. That two run lead would increase substantially for the Lady Lions posting up 6 runs in the fourth inning to bring the lead up to 8. After Panorama failed to answer in the bottom of the fourth, Des Moines Christian would tack on two more runs bringing the lead up to 10 where it would remain as the final score.
That score fell in line with the outcomes these two teams have been involved in the past three seasons where the victor has won the game by no less than 5 runs.
On the baseball diamond, the Panther boys had a hard time as well as Des Moines Christian went on a scoring spree to the tune of 17 runs and winning by the mark of 17-6. A 3-1 first inning advantage for the Lions grew to a 7-1 lead at the end of three innings. Pitching for the Panthers would continue to struggle in the 5th inning where 6 more runs would push across for the Lions ballooning the lead to 13-1. The Panthers would bounce back to strike 5 runs in the bottom half of the 5th. Unfortunately that is all the offense Panorama would muster and after Des Moines Christian put up 4 more runs in the final two frames, they would take the win.
Both Panther squads will look for redemption with their next set of games tomorrow with a pair of conference road contests against Madrid. Both match ups will start with first pitch at 7:00 pm
