flower planters

The City of Perry has a long history of flower planters in the downtown area, and the time has come to fill them.

Chamber of Commerce Director Bob Wilson says work on the planters has been spearheaded by volunteer Dave Wright, and they’re still looking for help in getting flowers into each. “We’re actively fundraising still. Most of them have been planted. Hotel/Motel tax will take care of some of the fees, but we do still want some donations to help.”

Wilson says the planters are found throughout the downtown area, as well as the bike trailhead, the welcome center, and along Railroad Street. However, he says the one to look for is near Caboose Park. A large cement flower planter that used to be at Flowers by Joyce is located there, and Wilson describes it as “huge and awesome.”

He adds, this will be the last year for the traditional concrete planters, as the City has purchased several new planters that should be shipped some time this summer. Wilson is excited to get them all filled, and his hope is that it will increase the City’s beauty and the morale of Perry residents. “It’s those little things that, you know, make your day better. You’re having a bad day, there’s some flowers. Or maybe you’re from out of town, and you just come and see this little bit of pride. So if you can help, let us know. We’d greatly appreciate it.”
