Mid-American Energy will start their Beaver Creek Wind Turbine project in Greene County this week.

Greene County Environmental Administrator Chuck Wenthold says after a slight delay, Mid-American Energy will begin prep work at 41 sites in the northeastern part of the county ahead of when the wind turbines are delivered. Equipment will be coming from the north down to Greene County on Highway 169 and then traveling west on county road E-26. The sites are between 150th and 190th streets, mostly on gravel roads.

Wenthold notes as the dirt and gravel prep work is completed, the wind turbines will start to be delivered by the first part of June. Each wind turbine requires 11 semis. Motorists should expect to see a total of 22 semis per day for a total of ten trips per week. Once the project in Greene County is completed, crews will move to Boone County to install the other 41 wind turbines.

The Greene County Board of Supervisors approved a construction permit at their meeting last Monday. Wenthold adds they will have weekly construction meetings with Mid-American, County Engineer Wade Weiss and Drainage Clerk Michelle Fields. As part of the agreement, if any county roads or district drainage tiles are damaged during construction, Mid-American is responsible for repairs.

The project is expected to be fully functional by December.
