Fort Dodge– The fourth straight trip to the state meet unfortunately could not yield a third straight state title for the Panorama boys golf team this past weekend who finished third overall in the class 2A state golf meet shooting a combined 607.

The Panthers were just 8 strokes away from joining the rare group to win three straight state meet titles as Clear Lake won it all with a score of 601 followed by Kuemper Catholic in second with a 604.

Another opportunity that barely missed included senior Will Babcock. Early on in his high school golfing career, Babcock took the individual state meet title, but Saturday missed out on a second by merely three strokes. Will evened out round one with an even par 72 and Saturday shaved two strokes off round one for a two under par score of 70. That put the senior as runner up with a combined total of 142 while New Hampton’s Carter Stochl won it all with a 140.

George Appleseth found his way into the top ten for an even par 72 in round one and a three over par 75 in round two for a grand final of 147 for exactly 10th place. Freshmen Kolby Shackelford matched Appleseth’s round two score to bring his grand total to 148 for a 13th place finish overall. Trey Cobb earned Panorama’s third best score overall as the sophomore placed 54th with a 36 hole score of 173. The Panthers then had Mitch Wagler follow in 58th place with a 179 and rounded out with Dylan Douglass in 62nd with a 184.

Panorama end 2017 as the West Central Activities Conference champions and third best team in all class 2A with the class 2A’s second best individual golfer and just 6 losses all season long.
