The Greene County Historical Society invites everyone to hear a local impact that polio had in the 1950s.

June’s program will feature Pat Schiltz and how she lived with polio in the 1950s and how the disease continues to affect her life today. She contracted the disease in 1955 when she was four-years-old. Eventually, after several trips to the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics from the ages of four to eight, she was cured of the disease. However, it still affects her life today with muscle and headaches. The free program will take place this Friday at 1pm at Central Christian Church in Jefferson.

A meal will be provided at noon. The cost for the meal is $8 for members and $10 for non-members. Non-members can contact Nancy Hanaman at 515-436-7684. Reservations must be made by tomorrow for the meal.

The program is free and open to the public.
