logo-Iowa-DNRThe Iowa Department of Natural Resources is once again sponsoring Iowa’s free fishing weekend.

June 2nd through the 4th, anyone can fish in Iowa without having a valid fishing license. Kids up to 16-years-old can also fish without a license anytime. Greene County Conservation Director Dan Towers encourages everyone to take advantage of these next three days to get out and fish.

“It’s to encourage people that maybe don’t plan on fishing and don’t want to spend the $17 to buy a license, to go out and try it and maybe they’ll like it and buy one in the end anyway.”

There is also a free fishing event taking place tomorrow in Scranton. Organizer Lisa Squibb says their sixth annual free fishing event will be from 11am to 2pm at Pond Park by the Highway 25 overpass bridge. Close to 70, 3- to 17-year-olds have signed up. Each participant will receive a donated prize for registering.
