The first victory of the 2017 high school softball season for the Greene County Rams was a 13-8 win over Alburnett at the Bondurant-Farrar tournament on Saturday. Greene County went 1-2 on the day as they lost 10-9 to Grandview Christian (Des Moines) and fell 12-0 to the host B-F Blue Jays.
Coach Tom Kennedy’s team is 1-9 overall and 0-6 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play heading into action tonight at Nevada. The Cubs are 2-3 on the season and 0-4 in the conference.
The Rams are led in batting average by lead off hitter Megan Carey. The sophomore left-handed slap hitter started slowly, but has seen the batting average rise to .516 with 16 hits in 31 at-bats. Included are one triple and one double. Senior Hannah Promes is batting .387 with junior Megan Durbin at 370 with two home runs, and sophomore Jenna Beyers is hitting .310 and she has one round-tripper. Promes and Durbin are tied for the team lead in runs batted in with nine apiece.
