Despite freshmen pitcher Abbie Hlas tossing just two strikeouts shy of her season high with 7 Monday, the ADM softball team did not have a clean night defensively which aided in the 6-2 loss to visiting Winterset.

Six runs off of eight hits, 2 errors, and nine left on base for the Lady Huskies while ADM tallied just two runs off of six hits, leaving six on base and suffering a four error night.

Winterset would take full advantage of the ADM miscues pushing across three unearned runs on three ADM errors. Two of the four errors pushed across 2 runs in the very first inning for Winterset despite no hits. The third unearned Winterset run came in the the top of the fifth inning.

ADM’s offense struck in the second inning off a sacrifice fly by Aniston Smith who recorded the teams only RBI for the contest. The Lady Tigers would bring home their second of two runs via a Winterset error in the 4th inning. As for the Lady Huskies, after two unearned runs in the first inning, an RBI triple in the third inning would push the early lead 3-2. Once the 5th inning came along the Lady Huskies would pad their lead with three more runs to set the score at 6-2 which would end up as the final.

Once again Abbie Hlas pitched a more than solid outing allowing just one earned run off of 8 hits while walking just three and striking out 7. She will be slapped with the loss while the win goes to Winterset’s Sophie Stover going 7 innings and also giving up just one earned run while allowing just six hits, two walks, and striking out 6 ADM batters.

ADM now drops their record to 8-4 overall while suffering just their second conference loss on the season. On the other side, Winterset improves their 2017 mark to 9-2 as one of just two conference teams with an undefeated conference record.

After the day off yesterday, the Lady Tigers will look to bounce back today welcoming in reigning conference champ Carlisle to Tiger Field. You can catch the game on K107.9 FM beginning with pregame coverage shortly before 7:15 with first pitch scheduled for 7:30.
