Despite the warm temperatures, hundreds of people enjoyed the 37th Annual Bell Tower Festival in Jefferson.
Friday kicked off the festival with the opening ceremonies. One of the highlights were this year’s Tower of Fame Award recipients, Jack Lashier and Vernon Eagle. Vernon’s daughter Mary Eagle accepted the award on behalf of her father who died 45 years ago. She describes what it was like to accept the award for her father.
“Full-hearted delight on my father’s behalf. He would’ve been so proud. For this to come through was such a surprise. I love coming back to Iowa, although I live now in western North Carolina. I’m just so proud of this town. It’s been a marvelous festival.”

Other highlights include the winners of the Ding, Dong, Dash 5K and 10K runs. The winners in the different age divisions for the 5K include Will Stevens, Jenna Johnson, Dakota Mobley, Parker Johnson, Taylor Wessling, Logan Egelans, Emily Christensen, Tyler Hankel, Lisa Ebersole, Kirk Stevens, Patricia Jacob, Curt Hoff and Beth Adams. The 10K winners were Dylan Haven, Ashley Bauer, Tyler Hostetler and Adam Hamblin. Winning their second consecutive championship in the 3-on-3 basketball tournament was the 3-Peat Team of Chris Nelson, Scott Weber, Keith Peterson and Keith Van Beek.
