unnamedHeart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity recently announced a new fundraiser event.

The first ever HabiTour will take bike riders down the Raccoon River Valley Trail as a way to help raise funds and awareness for Habitat for Humanity. Associate Director Jeff Lamoureux says participants can choose to ride 30, 50 or 100 miles on the bike trail.

“Those that are more casual bike riders, it’s a 30 mile, down the bike trail to Jamaica and turn around and come back to Jefferson. If you want the 50 mile, you’ll go into Jamaica, back into Herndon, down to Panora and then back to Jefferson is 50 miles. Those avid bike riders, those people that are serious about it, you’ve got the 100 mile and that would be the loop.”

A post ride celebration will take place at the trailhead in Jefferson. A barbecue meal from Smokin’ Big Dawgs BBQ will be served in Clover Hall on the Greene County Fairgrounds. Musical entertainment will be provided by JD and the Swensongs out of Boone. Plus, the Greene County Fair Association will serve craft and domestic beers. The final party is open to the public with a $10 fee for the barbecue meal.

Participants must raise $150 in sponsorships in order to ride on the trail. All proceeds will go back to each of the three counties including Greene, Guthrie and Boone for Habitat projects. The event will be on August 26th.
