Completed house on East Wilcoxway

The student construction class at Greene County High School will have a new venture next school year.

Superintendent Tim Christensen says the students completed building a new house on East Wilcoxway this past school year and is available to purchase. He points out a new project that the class will undertake to start the 2017-18 school year with Prairie Lakes AEA.

“They’ve got a building on the north side of the square (in Jefferson). There’s an apartment on the second floor, that’s kind of 1970s is the vintage. We had a student that put together plans to update that apartment complex and the AEA Board did approve that project.”

The School Board also approved at their meeting last week to share students with Southeast Valley for the construction class. Christensen explains the details with the agreement.

“It’s 90-percent of the cost per pupil, per period. Essentially we’re on trimesters with a six-period day, so it’s $333 per class period, per trimester and the construction class is three periods long. So that’s kind of a breakdown of the cost.”

Christensen adds that next month the Board will discuss the direction of the class should the current house not sell before the start of the next school year.
