Both West Central Valley softball and baseball teams were in action last night in conference play against Earlham on the road. The Wildcat baseball team used an extra innings rally to edge out the Cardinals 4-3 while the Lady Wildcats were on the unfortunate side of a 10-0 defeat.

The Lady Wildcat softball squad was only able to muster one hit on the night while being issued 3 walks and suffering 4 strikeouts. West Central Valley held the conference leading Lady Cardinals to just three runs through three innings but could not keep it up for long. Earlham broke the game wide open in the 4th inning after pushing five runs across the plate making it an 8-0 lead heading into the 5th inning. From there Earlham would strike for two more runs in the fifth setting the 10 run rule into effect. The Lady Wildcats drop to 4-19 on the year and will be back in action tomorrow taking on non conference foe Mount Ayr.

As for the Wildcat baseball team, the contest had to be decided in extra innings after a 3-3 tie could not be broken after the 7th inning. The game actually started off with an Earlham lead 2-1 after 2 innings of play. The Wildcats then answered with a run in the 4th and 5th innings before Earlham would equalize the game in the bottom of the fifth. That would set up the heroic 8th inning for the Wildcats who would push one run in and hold off Earlham for the 4-3 win. Seven different batters recorded a hit for West Central Valley highlighted by Alex Horrigan’s 3-4 night at the plate driving in one run with a stolen base. Cole Arnburg had a great night as well with three stolen bases while reaching base safely in all three trips to the plate. The win bumps up the Wildcat’s record to 12-8 as they get set to take on Panorama at home for a double header Thursday.
