The Dallas County Board of Supervisors convened Tuesday morning in regular session.
During open forum, Robert Greenway talked about the countywide local option sales tax petition. Greenway said the petition is just over 1,000 signatures, but the cities involved were wondering if the Supervisors would simplify things by putting a measure on the November ballot themselves. The Board said they couldn’t take any action on it at the meeting, but it may come up at future meetings.
The Board also approved resolutions including: the assigning of unused funds, which is the final task for the current fiscal year; a sheepsfoot roller purchase for the secondary roads department; and the appointment of Deanndra Torres to continue on the Veterans Affairs Commission. They also approved the Iowa Prayer Caucus network to use the courthouse lawn for the second annual 99-County Bible Reading Marathon taking place this weekend.
Finally, Jerry Purdy of Design Alliance updated the Board on the new law enforcement center. He said they had received the survey information, and brought in the current blueprints for the project. He was happy to report the plans haven’t deviated yet from what was proposed to the public ahead of the bond referendum vote.
There will be no meeting next week due to the Fourth of July holiday. They will next convene Tuesday, July 11th.
