Hard rain and lightning in Jefferson Friday night forced postponement of both varsity softball and baseball between Greene County and Gilbert. Neither game had enough innings played for a complete game, and it wasn’t known immediately after the games were called off whether either would be finished.

Gilbert led the baseball game 3-0 after 3-1/2 innings, while the Rams were up 2-1 in softball after 2-1/2 innings on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

A highlight for the Rams in softball was a Megan Carey leadoff inside-the-park home run in the first inning. The ball appeared it would be caught in deep right field, but sailed over the outfielder’s glove, onto the warning track and up against the fence. Carey circled the bases without a throw home.
