Greene County travels northwest to Cherokee to open Class 3A Region 3 softball tournament play tonight. The winner continues their season in Friday’s semifinal round while the losing team will have to wait until 2018 to play again. The Rams are 10-19 while Cherokee is 23-9 and ranked number 13 in 3A by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. Coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. with first pitch at 7 on KG98 and streamed “live” on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

Tom Kennedy is the head coach of the Rams. He’s seen his team beat a pair of rated teams so far this season and although the Rams have a long way to travel and play a team with a much better record, the coach is optimistic. “I think we’re in a good position. We haven’t really put that game together where we’ve played good defense, pitched well, and hit the ball with authority. Maybe tonight is the night.”

The winner meets the winner of Southeast Valley (Cowrie) and Kuemper Catholic (Carroll).
