The Perry farmers market has had its final appearance at the Perry Marketplace, as today it will be held for the first time at Josh Davis Plaza.

The change in venue was decided by the Chamber of Commerce Board, and Director Bob Wilson realizes there are people both for and against the move. However, he asks both shoppers and vendors to bear with them and give the new location a chance. “I think what you’re going to see is a better market. The whole purpose behind this move is to get the downtown merchants more involved, to get more things going as an event.”

Wilson says the Marketplace has been a good location for vendors, but believes it’s time for a change. He believes the new location will bring even more shoppers and more of an event feel to the market. He adds, the parking and accessibility of the area won’t be as inconvenient as people fear, though July will function as a test run to allow them to work out any kinks. If the new location doesn’t work out as he hopes, Wilson says it’s always possible to move it back to the Marketplace. However, he’s confident the change in venue will benefit everyone involved.

The Perry farmers market will run from 4-7 p.m. today at Josh Davis Plaza, which is on 2nd Street between Willis Avenue and Warford Street.
