Today is the day that ACGC baseball gets introduced to the postseason for the first time under the ACGC name.
Head coach Willie Patti and his Charger squad take on round one of the class 2A district 15 tournament and their opponent will be 16-8 Underwood in Manning. The Chargers have prepared for this game and are ready to take on the challenge and as they do so there will have to be a few aspects that ACGC will lean heavily on for a win from great pitching to senior leadership. While skill, talent, and leadership need to be in full force for a win today, the more pressing issue coach Patti wants his team to focus on is not getting overwhelmed with the postseason atmosphere.
“It comes down to really not letting the playoff atmosphere effect them. As long as we go in there and we stay true to ourselves and stay true to Charger baseball then we’re going to be in a good spot whether it’s against Underwood or anyone else past the first round. It really comes down to as long as we come out there and compete every inning, every pitch, every out, and get things done that way. And to keep within ourselves, keeping with the plans each guy has individually: pitching wise, offensively, defensively, and really staying there it will become a good game. I really feel they’ll make some good competition, have some good baseball playoffs going on and allow the guys to keep on going and not just be one and done right away but then when we can look at the second and potentially the third round,” stated coach Patti.
ACGC’s postseason battle against Underwood kicks off with first pitch in Manning scheduled for 5:00 pm.
