The West Central Valley baseball team rounded out their 2017 campaign Friday night in Stuart up against class 3A’s Winterset.
Although the Wildcats put up 8 hits in the contest, they could only muster 4 runs while Winterset’s early lead and late push secured a Wildcat loss by the final mark of 12-4. The early advantage for the Huskies came in the form of a 5-0 second inning lead which West Central Valley cut into with three runs of their own in the bottom of the third. A two run 5th for Winterset was followed by a big 5 run 6th inning for the Huskies which broke the game wide open and despite the Wildcat rally late, just one run was not enough as they would fall 12-4.
Overall West Central Valley collected those 4 runs off of 8 hits and two RBI’s. The loss brings the Wildcat record to a still respectable 14-9 as they say goodbye to regular season play. The Wildcats will be hitting the diamond next in postseason play on July 11th in round two and still awaiting their opponent from the ACGC vs. Underwood round one contest today. West Central Valley’s postseason run will begin July 11th at 5:00 pm in Neola.
