The final baseball game of the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference and regular seasons for Greene County resulted in a 6-2 loss on Tuesday night. Coach Mark Sawhill’s Rams fell to North Polk in Alleman and finished the conference season at 5-10 and the regular season with a 13-12 record. The Comets improved to 23-8 and finished tied with Saydel (Des Moines) for first place in the HOIAC at 13-3.
Greene County had just two hits, both singles, off winning pitcher Jake Johnson, who improved to 7-0 with a 0.60 earned run average. Wade Adcock and Tom Gannon singled for the Rams and Austin Delp batted in a run. The Rams trailed 3-0 after three innings, then scored twice in the fourth. NP countered with two in the bottom of the fourth and scored the final run in the sixth.
Ben Wilkins took the pitching loss. He went the first three innings and all three runs off Wilkins were unearned. Delp pitched the next two and he allowed two runs, also unearned. Dylan Fouch pitched one inning and gave up one earned run. The Comets totaled eight hits off Greene County pitching.
All that’s left on the schedule for the Rams is the postseason. Greene County meets ADM on Friday at 5 p.m. in Harlan in Class 3A District 15 opening round action. Coverage on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com begins around 4:30 p.m.
