The Guthrie Center School Board met twice Monday night in regular session.
The first meeting was a joint meeting with the Adair-Casey School Board. The two boards approved the continuation of the 28E agreement with A-C School District, along with setting the school fees for the upcoming school year. The preliminary whole grade sharing expenses were also approved as presented. The boards also approved the shared superintendent’s salary for the 2017-18 school year. Superintendent Steve Smith explains the discussion that took place.
“One district or the other holds the contract and the superintendent one for example, Guthrie Center (School District) holds that contract. So it’s nice if the two boards can be together and discuss that. The superintendent’s salary will be $146,000 for another year.”
The joint meeting then finished with a discussion on the successes and concerns ahead of entering into the second year of whole grade sharing.
During the Guthrie Center School Board meeting, the Board approved Bimbo Bakery and Anderson/Erickson as the district’s bakery and milk distributors for the 2017-18 school year. The Board also approved an $88,900 purchase of a 77-passenger school bus with funds from the physical plant and equipment levy, along with the Area Education Agency purchase agreement for reduced hot lunch prices. The Board also approved hiring Stacy Wedemeyer as the school’s nurse and approved the high school principal, elementary school principal and curriculum director’s salaries for the 2017-18 school year.
Finally, the Board discussed the upcoming school board elections in September.
