The 2017 Dallas County Fair is now in the rear window, which has given organizers time to take stock in the weeklong event.
Dallas County Extension Director Jeff Jackson estimated there were a few thousand visitors to the fairgrounds in Adel throughout the week. They also had over 600 exhibitors showing animals and other exhibits, many with multiple entries, so there were more than 1,000 exhibits shown. Jackson said they had very high numbers in all the livestock categories, including a three-hour rabbit show. The pet shows had slightly lower numbers this year, however.
Additionally, the vendors at the fair reported a great deal of success. The food vendors and carnival all reported high sales throughout the week. Additionally, the 4-H food stand saw record sales. By the end of the fair, basically their entire stock was gone. For Jackson, it was his first Dallas County Fair experience, and he was pleased with how it went. He was impressed by how much could be fit into a relatively small area. He also felt the weather was perfect the whole week, which likely contributed to high attendance and sales.
Jackson says there will be 47 static exhibitors headed to the Iowa State Fair next month. For a list of results, as well as pictures, check out our fair coverage at RaccoonValleyRadio.com.
