Greene County head softball coach Tom Kennedy saw his team lose more games than it lost for the first time in 10 seasons. However, the coach said the squad improved as the season went on, and the numbers prove it. After starting the 2017 season with eight straight losses, and losing nine of its first 10, the Rams started winning. They finished 10-20 and upset a pair of top 15 rated teams along the way. The season ended with a 3-1 loss to Class 3A number 12 Cherokee in Cherokee in the first round of regional play to a team that finished 24-10.

Coach Kennedy said, “It was kind of a tale of two seasons. We started our really slow and I think the girls made a commitment to get better and were able to finish the year on a better note. I think the way we finished gave us a little encouragement going into next year. Hopefully, we’re all pumped up and we can get a little better for next year.”

Hannah Promes the only senior on the team and she earned second team All-Conference honors. Heart of Iowa Activities Conference All-Conference players returning for Coach Kennedy are sophomore Megan Carey (second team), sophomore Jenna Beyers (honorable mention) and junior Megan Durbin (honorable mention). Carey was also named to the 3A Central Iowa All-District team.
