With the 2017 baseball season just over two weeks wrapped up for the ACGC Chargers, it brings about plenty of time for coaches and athletes to reflect and gear up for next year.
While the 2017 season wasn’t the most exciting in terms of wins and losses, all sorts of positives did arise. Not only did the team build chemistry, but they built it with first year head coach Willie Patti. As coach Patti has reflected on what the 2017 season brought and what he would like to take into the 2018 campaign, he mentioned to Raccoon Valley Radio the biggest building block he intends on using stems from the mental side of the game.
“Really the mental side of the game, I think that’s the biggest one we’ve all recognized as being out biggest (building) block we have to work off of. The mental side of the game understanding it’s more than just you swing the bat and throw the ball, there’s a lot more going there. Also trusting each other and changing the culture and those all kinda fall into the mental side of the game as well. Those are really the big areas that we’re going to keep pushing on working to build off of with our beginning blocks that we’ve now got laid down,” explained coach Patti.
The Chargers did show their mental strength pretty heavily in the field where they committed a conference low 9 errors all season long.
