The State Baseball Tournament began on Friday and continues through July 29 at Principal Park in Des Moines. Greene County lost in the second round of the postseason to number one ranked Harlan Community by a 4-2 final and the Rams finished with a 14-13 record. 2017 marks the second time in the past three years Greene County teams won more games than they lost.

Harlan isn’t the only State Tournament team the Rams met. Coach Mark Sawhill’s team went 2-3 this season vs. the State field. They have a victory over Class 2A Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) and went 1-1 vs. Class 3A Saydel (Des Moines). In addition to Harlan, 3A Bondurant-Farrar also hung a loss on Greene County.

2A teams play on Monday with 3A squads taking the field Tuesday and the 4A first round is Wednesday. Semifinals take place Thursday and Friday with all four Championship games scheduled for Saturday.
