Adair-Casey and Guthrie Center School districts are entering their second year together.
Shared Superintendent Steve Smith believes the first year went very smoothly and he describes one area where each district benefited by the whole grade sharing agreement.
“Because of declining enrollment it was looking like some of those good things, college level credit courses were kind of sliding away from us. So actually by making the combo with the two districts, we’re able to keep that plus we’re also able to add a few more college courses with that.”
Some of those classes include health careers, welding, business and agricultural, as well as criminal justice. Smith also highlights some areas that need improvement.
“I would say an area that we will continue to try to always match is transportation. Making sure we get kids where they belong and to the right district at the right time. And then just making sure we have good personnel in all of our positions.”
Overall, Smith thought the first year was very positive and he looks forward to continuing the whole grade share between the two districts.
